Manchester United thrashed Newcastle United 3-1 on Boxing Day in the English Premier League and continued their fine run of performances, winning 6 matches of their last seven and drawing the odd one. The team has been revitalised and the players are performing incredibly well. Most of the players have stood up to the task and have taken the initiative to take the team to higher levels, trying to please the new manager Louis Van Gaal and doing their best to ensure a starting place berth.
Wayne Rooney, Captain of Manchester United has played a pivotal role in the success of United this season, adapting generously to the Van Gaal philosophy and grinding out performances of top stature week in week out. He has been in scintillating form this season, chipping in with necessary goals at important times, scoring a brace against Newcastle United as well.
He has also been highly useful in the midfield, tracking back and moving forward, taking the game by the grip and influential in all United has been doing so far. But Rooney isn’t the only one who has shone under the new manager. Another talented individual grabbed his opportunity with both hands and has cemented his place in the lineup with his incredible performances.
Ashley Young chipped in with another amazing performance on the left wing, demolishing Newcastle Defense with his trickery, sending in teasing crosses for Van Persie and Falcao. His assist against Aston Villa for Falcao was just a glimpse of what he is capable of, and he shone brilliantly against Newcastle United on Boxing Day.
He was tireless in his play, working up and down the pitch, providing the much needed trickery and pace at the wing and testing the defense time and again. He was a nuisance for the opponents all night and his performance was on par with Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata.
Young has shown what he is capable of and his recent performances will give manager Louis Van Gaal a tough selection decision ahead of next match against Tottenham.
