Top 5 performers of the Premier League on Boxing Day

English Premier League News:
With all its festivities and delights, Premier League football reached its conclusion on the eve of Boxing Day. While Chelsea streamlined to an easy finish against high flying hammers, Manchester City had to fight with snowy conditions at the Hawthorns. Talking about the contenders for Champions League places, both Liverpool and Arsenal had to work hard for their wins while another win for Tottenham kept them level on points with Arsenal.
Here are top 5 performers of the Premier League on Boxing Day: –

Wayne Rooney
At the start of the reign of Louis Van Gaal, many Manchester United fans questioned the role of Rooney in the team while Falcao was signed. However, 6 months after a new era started at Old Trafford and Wayne Rooney has become an irreplaceable figure for Manchester United and yesterday was no different.

Coming up against a resurgent Newcastle side, it was Wayne Rooney that effectively won the match for Manchester United with his brace. Setting the tone with his 1st goal of the match which came at 23 minutes, Rooney ruined Christmas for the Magpies with his 2nd goal at 36 minutes which ended the match for Alan Pardew’s men.

Diego Costa
Coming into this match on the eve of Boxing Day, Costa hasn’t scored in the last 4 matches and was running a bit out of form. However, 33 minutes into the match and he dispelled all the myths about his small run out of form.
After providing an assist to John Terry on Chelsea in the first half, Diego Costa scored a goal himself at 62nd-minute mark to put the match beyond the reach of visiting West Ham side. As a result while other teams were sweating for a win on Boxing Day, Chelsea were home courtesy to an early kick off and some fine work by Diego Costa.

Alexis Sanchez
When they talk about best players, one thing that is dominant is their ability to come back after making a mistake. Yesterday was a proof why Alexis Sanchez is the best because even though he missed a penalty in the first 10 minutes, the Chilean refused to dwell on it as he run-riot the whole QPR defense.

Even though Arsenal weren’t at their best yesterday, it was the solo effort of Alexis Sanchez that earned them 3 points after being reduced to 10 man. After nodding the ball past Rob Green to give Arsenal the lead, the former Barcelona player provided an assist to returning Tomas Rosicky to put the match beyond the reach of Harry Redknapp’s men.
Thus, at this time of the year when teams wait for their best players to perform, Alexis Sanchez has reduced the problems for Arsene Wenger.

David Silva
At a time when Premier League pundits tipped Manchester City to struggle due to the absence of Sergio Aguero, the midfield force of Manchester City has taken matters in their own hands. And while Yaya Toure is a constant member of that brigade, David Silva has unexpectedly risen to the center-stage for Manchester City.

After managing a brace last week against Crystal Palace, the Spaniard made full use of his form yesterday against West Brom. After earning a penalty for Manchester City to earn an assist to his name, David Silva scored a goal to triple the lead for Manchester City. Thus, even though Sergio Aguero will miss the festive period, David Silva’s current form can keep the winning run intact for Manchester City.

Raheem Sterling
At 20 years of age and becoming the most important player for Liverpool this season, Raheem Sterling rescued Liverpool to an ordinary win against Burnley. Even though Liverpool was the 2nd best team for the period of 90 minutes, it was a result of some brilliant finishing by Raheem Sterling that they came out of the match as winners.
