After a month full of controversy, the saga is finally over – Sergio Ramos will sign a new contract with Real Madrid and therefore, will not join Manchester United this summer. The central defender was constantly surrounded by rumors lately, as information leaked that the management of the Whites refused to increase the salary of the player as much as he wanted. As a result, a lot of teams started to show interest in Ramos and to make the rumors even stronger the player himself hadn’t talked about his future lately. The club that had the biggest chances of actually getting him was Manchester United. The Red Devils were ready to pay a large amount of money and send David De Gea to the Santiago Bernabeu just to get Sergio Ramos at Old Trafford. However, according to the latest reports, the Spanish international won’t be leaving Madrid soon.
“Sergio and Rene (Ramos’ brother and agent) explained to Real Madrid sporting director Jose Angel Sanchez that his desire was to retire with the club, which they then reiterated to Florentino Perez. Florentino, not previously realising the gravity of his refusal to accept Ramos’ wage demands, apologised for the misunderstanding and agreed to renew the contract of the club’s future captain.”
The reports are that Perez and Ramos met in China, where the team is currently on a world tour and discussed a possible deal between the club and the player. If everything is true, that would mean that the defender and Real’s president have reached a deal, which would make the Spaniard one of Madrid’s best-paid players. Even though the Whites will pay a lot of money weekly to Ramos, it would have been a lot worse if they had lost him to United. Sergio is one of the best at his position and Real Madrid would have been in big trouble if he had departed – two of the biggest icons leaving in one summer was going to be devastating for the chemistry of the club. Nevertheless, Florentino Perez managed to save the situation and if everything goes well, Ramos will soon sign a brand new contract with the Whites.
