Preview: Roma Vs Manchester City, Champions League, 10 Dec ’14

Champions League Match Previews:
Two teams which are competing for title in their respective leagues but struggling in Europe, Roma and Manchester City will go head to head on Wednesday to know their fate in this season’s Champions League. Being part of the Group of Death and only separated by goal difference, the winner of this match will earn a berth in knockout stage that will start next year in February. However a defeat for either of them will make matters complicated.

Having won 2 and lost 2 of their 5 games in this season’s Champions League with both the defeats coming against Bayern Munich, Roma would be coming into this match as favorites if their home ground advantage is taken into effect. However looking at what Bayern Munich did to them at Stadio Olimpico when the German power-house visited Roma in Champions League, Manchester City would be hoping to get a result against all the odds.

Manchester City:
Coming into this fixture on the back of an impressive performance against Everton on Saturday, Manchester City would be confident to snatch a win from this fixture. Playing away from home and knowing that only a win will grant them further excess in the competition, pressure will be on the reigning Premier League Champions to perform as they’re on a 5 match winning streak.
And with recent Sergio Aguero injury adding fuel to fire, Manuel Pellegrini would be hoping to see the whole team in full swing on Wednesday.

Key players:

Adam Ljajic:

At 23 years of age and mostly employed in the right forward position at Roma, Adam Ljajic has been one of star performers for Roma this season in Serie A. In 12 matches this season for Roma, Ljajc has managed 6 goals to his name with 2 assists also to his credit. And when you compare his performance to those of the last season, Ljajic has scored the same number of goals so far which he managed in the entire last season for the Italian giants Roma.
Thus even though he hasn’t been given enough time in this season’s Champions League to prove his mettle, the Serbian would be itching to score his 1st goal in the competition this season in-front of the home crowd.

Yaya Toure:

In the absence of Sergio Aguero who injured his knee in the opening stages of the 1st half against Everton, Yaya Toure can prove to be the difference between the two sides. Having scored 5 goals this season with 1 of them coming in Champions League, Yaya Toure has a perfect chance to shine in a big match.
After his performance against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena, the Ivorian was targeted by the fans for his lack of effort as he labored in the whole 90 minutes. But after seeing a dismal start to the season in which he managed just 1 goal in the opening 14 matches, Toure has scored 4 times in the next 6 matches to regain the form which he acquired last season.
And with no Aguero in the side with most probably Dzeko or Jovetic taking his position in the center forward role, Manuel Pellegrini would be hoping that the Ivorian would be on his game from the 1st whistle at STADIO OLIMPICO

It is very tough to predict such fixture but I’m expecting a draw here.
