Chelsea 1 – 1 Huddersfield Town
This was a must-win game for both teams as a draw for Huddersfield will see them avoid relegation, whereas for Chelsea a draw or a loss could potentially mean they will not finish in the top 4.
The first half was very uneventful despite Chelsea dominating possession and having 2 shots on target they were unable to score. The second half however had a lot more action with Huddersfield taking the lead in the 50th minute with a fantastic goal from Laurent Depoitre with a quick counterattacking play but Chelsea responded in the 62th minute with a header from Marcos Alonso to equalize the score. The score finished at 1-1 meaning Huddersfield are safe from relegation and Chelsea now sits at 5th.
Leicester City 3 – 1 Arsenal
This is Arsene Wenger’s second to last game in charge of Arsenal, however Arsenal have been struggling as of late and are yet to pick up a point while away in 2018 so the game could easily go either way.
Leicester City started of very strong and continued to show Arsenal’s shortcomings when playing away. Leicester scored their first goal in the 14th minute of the first half due to an excellent left-footed shot from Kelechi Iheanacho which was setup by Diabete. Arsenal added to their woes with a foul by Mavropanos which resulted in a red card just one minute later in the 15th minute.
Arsenal came back strong in the second half but were unable to keep Leicester at bay despite Aubameyang equalizing in the 53th minute but Leicester responded with a penalty goal by Vardy in the 76th minute and a further goal in the 90th minute by Mahrez putting the game far beyond Arsenals reach.
Manchester City 3 – 1 Brighton
Man City will be looking to continue their dominant form in the Premier League this season and firm favourites to win with a huge goal difference of +76 and are 17 points ahead of second place in the English Premier League.
Manchester City started of the first half very strong with an early goal by Danilo with a strong right footed shot setup by Leroy Sane. However Brighton responded just 4 minutes later in the 20th minute with a fantastic header by Ulloa to level the score. Manchester City kept up pressure which resulted in a second goal in the 34th minute by Bernardo Silva following another assist by Leroy Sane.
Manchester City continued to pile on the pressure in the second half with a further goal in the 72th minute with another goal setup by Sane which gifted Fernandinho an easy goal. There was no way back for Brighton and the score ended 3-1 in favour of Man City.
Tottenham 1 – 0 Newcastle
This game is a must-win game for Tottenham who are just 1 point behind 3rd place Liverpool and just 2 points ahead of Chelsea who are in 5th.
The first half of the Tottenham vs. Newcastle fixture was uneventful with both teams being unable to score and only having 3 shots on target. Tottenham were very dominating possession wise with 70% but little of this time was spent in the Newcastle United.
Tottenham started the second half strong with a 50th minute goal by Harry Kane who scored using a superb shot into the top right corner which was assisted by Son Heung-Min. This result moves Tottenham up to 3rd place ahead of Liverpool and meaning they are guaranteed a top 4 finish.
There will be a further fixture between West Ham United & Manchester United on Thursday 10th of May. The final round of matches for the 2017-2018 season of the English Premier League will take place on Sunday 13th of May and will feature all 20 teams. Although the winner of the Premier League is already decided there is everything to play for the final UEFA Champions League place.
