On a hunt for the first place, Premier League

Premier League News

The last round of the England Premier League for this calendar year is surely vital for most of the teams. That fact is especially true when it comes to the top of the table where Chelsea and Manchester City are “fighting” over the 1st place. A day before the last, 19th round, José Mourinho’s team is on the top with 45 points. Following the leader with 43 points is the team from Manchester, which by the way is quite in a roll there – last 6 matches – 6 wins. On the other hand, Chelsea has 1 tie, 1 defeat and 4 wins.

Chelsea will meet the former leader of the table for 2014, Southampton. The match is on 28/12/2014 at 14:05 GMT. The Blues have looked nearly unstoppable at home but their away form has been a little more shaky. What is more, it is difficult to ever doubt that Chelsea will get a result, but the atmosphere at St Mary’s will give the hosts a boost and they could come away with a point.

Mourinho said in an interview: “I am really happy. We are doing very well and we have one more match until the end of the year and we will try to finish first.”

The strategist added: “It is the football of the team that leads (the table) and we are playing very well. “We are clearly title contenders, but we still have to finish the first step and there’s a lot to come.”

Manchester City will be the host for the game against Burnley. The match is on 28/12/2014 at 15:00 GMT. “The Citizens” have seemingly comfortable 3-1 win over West Bromwhich Albion on Boxing Day, which made it 7 consecutive wins for the defending champions. They will look to make it 8 from 8 with the welcome of Burnley in order to keep the pressure on Chelsea, who kick off earlier in the day. Burnley’s 1-0 loss at home to Liverpool means they have now won only 1 of their last 6 league games. The situation does not get much easier with the trip to the Etihad Stadium – any positive result will be seen as a bonus for the Clarets.

Manuel Pellegrini said for the reporters: “Vincent Kompany could be fit, we will see [on Saturday]. Edin Dzeko and Aguero will not be fit. Jovetic was on the bench today so maybe he will be fit for Sunday.”

He added: “We are not thinking about Chelsea, we are just thinking about winning our games. The title never finishes in December so we are not thinking about any other team.”

This last round of the England Premier League, for 2014, will be surely full of emotions and surprises so I am, undeniably, looking for it. I hope we see high-class football and fair play.
