Arsenal set to launch massive bid for Borussia Dortmund duo
At a time when Arsenal’s form in the Premier League is getting back on track as they sit just 1 point off the fourth spot, manager Arsene Wenger is hoping to reinvigorate his team with two valuable additions from the German giants Borussia Dortmund.

Even though Borussia Dortmund are currently reluctant to let both Iikay Gundogan and Mats Hummels leave, Arsenal are preparing a bid in the region of 63million pounds to test their resolve as per the Daily Star.
Manchester United are also in the race for Hummels but Champions League factor could prove crucial for Arsenal if they want to sign him in the January transfer window.

While both of these players might become instant players in the starting 11 for Arsenal, their addition in the squad might mean the end of road for Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini both of whom are spending their last 6 months in an Arsenal contract.

While Hummels would be a huge boost for the Arsenal defense that has strutted this season in the absence of Laurent Koscielny, it would be the signing of Iikay Gundogan that would solve the crisis for Arsenal in their midfield. Although he signed contract extension with Borussia Dortmund in 2014 to extend his stay till 2016, the dip in form of Dortmund might see him leave the 2011/12 Bundesliga Champions.

After selling Alex Song to Barcelona in the summer of 2012 for 15 million pounds, the Gunners have failed to attract a top quality midfielder into their ranks. Thus, even though they have spent a lot of money in acquiring utility players like Ozil and Sanchez, a World class central midfielder was missing in their ranks since long.

While they tried to lure Sami Khedira to Arsenal in summer last year and were prepared to do so again in January, the injury to Luka Modric has increased the game-time of the German which makes his departure from the Bernabeu difficult.

Arsenal were also chasing a couple of other targets from which Morgan Schneiderlin was on the top of their list for long. However, with the current form of Southampton which has led them to 3rd in the Premier League table 3 points above Arsenal, the Frenchman is content to stay with the Saints till summer in order to strengthen their bid for a Champions League place this season.

However, if the move for the German duo goes through smoothly which has been the case with marquee signings for Arsenal off late, Arsene Wenger might soothe the anger of his fans after another failed title challenge this season.
