The recent form of Liverpool has been under immense scrutiny. Their manager, Brendan Rodgers has been highly criticized for the poor showing of the club from the onset of the season and the continued miserable form of the team has led to rumors of the manager getting a sack.
Liverpool, which played with such speed and flair last season, scoring at will and making oppositions look bewildered week in week out, have been all but a shadow of themselves this season. They have slumped to 11th position in the English Premier League and have been eliminated from the UEFA Champions League. They failed to overcome Basel in the group stages and now will be competing in the Europa Cup.
All of this has led to growing speculations of a change in the ranks at Liverpool. Brendan Rodgers might finally get the sack and another Dutch coach has come out as a probable candidate for the post.
Frank De Boer, the Ajax manager, who was so heavily linked with Tottenham last season, and had a war of words with Andre Villas-Boas, the then manager of Tottenham. Now, De Boer has been linked again with a move to the English top flight, and has become a leading contender to replace to under pressure Brendan Rodgers, if the owners decide on an axe.
De Boer has had a great run with Ajax and has completely transformed the team through his managerial skills. He has a distinct style which has brought some great results for the Dutch club and his methods might attract the Liverpool Hierarchy, who are in search for some stability and fine run.
The pressure is certainly growing on the Liverpool manager and the midweek victory in the League Cup might only be a breather for the man under the spotlight. Liverpool certainly needs results and they could very well start doing that this weekend against at Home against Arsenal. The match will surely be very important for Brendan Rodgers’ future.
